About

Chief Information Security Officer

Throughout his career Thomas has had the opportunity to work in Western Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, and the United States of America. During the initial years of Thomas’s career, he used to work on Unix Systems and networking technologies such as Token Ring, which are now obsolete, and has since transitioned to hardware and network engineering. A major breakthrough in Thomas’s career came when he was assigned to a role that involved building LAN/WAN solutions to securely connect multiple offices in emerging markets for the large multinational company.

During the late 1990’s Thomas was granted the opportunity to work for the major multinational telecommunication corporation, Motorola. In this position with Motorola, Thomas was first exposed to Information Security, as part of his role required him to protect the company’s sensitive electronic data such as product designs and blueprints. During his time as the Regional Information Technology Manager with Motorola, he was responsible for successfully developing and leading a multi-cultural, geographically dispersed, cross-functional IT team which spanned across 23 countries in the Middle East, Africa, Central and Eastern Europe, Pakistan, and Turkey. Under Thomas’s supervision and leadership, the team at Motorola implemented and operationalized network vulnerability scans, risk mitigation activities, and patch management activities across location in the Middle East, and Africa. After being in this role for six year, Thomas earned his CISSP certification in 2003.

In February of 2006 Thomas joined General Motors in the automotive industry where he worked in various global roles covering Infrastructure, Operations, and Cybersecurity. During his time working in the automotive industry, Thomas’s crowning achievement was the successful development and execution of a next generation Cybersecurity transformation strategy that efficiently implemented a global cyber and information security capability.

After 10 years in the automotive industry with General Motors, Thomas received the chance to join the multinational mining, metals, and petroleum company BHP (formerly known as BHP Billitin) as their first Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to help transform their cybersecurity. Thomas achieved this by building a team of world class cybersecurity professionals that were responsible for the transformation under Thomas’s guidance.
